If you have ever wondered what it would be like to listen to true world music, now is your chance to do so. Estas Tonne, a troubadour and self-proclaimed purveyor of elemental sounds of the universe, will perform live at Charline McCombs Empire Theatre next Friday, November 30th.
Tonne is a native of Ukraine, where he spent his first six years. At the age of eight, he took up the guitar but after his family moved to Israel in 1990, he stopped playing for 11 years. In September 2001, he moved to New York and resumed playing the guitar in a duo with a violinist and street musician Michael Shulman. Since then, Tonne has made a name for himself, extensively touring to perform at concerts, conferences, street festivals, yoga events, art events and other festivals worldwide. He has released twenty-eight albums and worked on countless other projects. Perhaps most notably, Tonne’s "Song of the Golden Dragon" surpassed over 40 million views on YouTube.
As a modern-day troubadour, Estas Tonne travels to countless places and finds himself in several cultural references without identifying himself with a single nation or country; rather, with the cultural richness of the world. His music is therefore a reflection of a classical structure: the technique of flamenco, roots of gypsy, and characteristics of Latin and electronic soundscapes.
The upcoming Breath of Sound tour reaches the followers of bold guitar music and unique art and culture, as well as spiritual wellbeing. Through his music, Estas Tonne invites people to close their eyes, open their hearts, and dive into a sacred space where one can experience music in the purest form.
